Tangled Up in Blue

The Bob Dylan song has always been a mystery...why tangled up in blue?  What did it mean?  My own interpretation of that theme resulted in the piece below:

My original thought was a person who is tangled up in dreams, in memories, in possibilities.  Rising up from this mass, the figure is not afraid, not panicked, but straining upward toward clarity.  There is almost a look of joy on the face, turned upward.  A sensitive piece, that speaks to the viewer, engaging them to reflect on their own tangle of life.

The First Flakes

Now that I live in a place where snow is a common experience, the first flakes of snow don't elicit the response they did in my Southern past.  We've had our first flirt with flurries... white pieces of fluff dropping from the grey skies, melting on contact with the ground below.  On the ridge where I live, the cold fingers of wind and damp drive through the house more and more.  Substantial snow WILL come.  I'm reconciled to that.  As I grow to live here, I am embracing the seasonal turns and twists. Spring waits long, but is filled with explosive color and form. Summer strolls in with warm, lazy days, and an occasional sunburn.  Then Autumn arrives, flaming with reds and oranges, and harvest baskets overflowing. Those days have gone, and now Winter is at the door, full of frost and stillness across the empty fields. Now patient for the snow to come.

There is so much beauty here: the increasing flocks of geese migrating, the bald eagles scan the fields, deer gather out in the edge of the woods, and the skunk and the fox roam the night.  The mountains are just as close as the open farmland, and offer vistas that stretch as far as I can view.  Life is quiet, but satisfying.

As far as the art goes, I have completed another year's cycle of exploring, creating, and am excited about what lies ahead.  Sales are increasing, and I seem to be finding my feet career-wise, and growing in my work. Learning a new market, finding new clients, and growing relationships with other artists have become familiar in this new place.  This is an incredibly art-filled area.  There are so many talented creators here... the energy is amazing. I can only grow here!

As I begin my fourth year of widowhood, I'm learning to value each day, each new idea, each sweet memory of the past, and each soft hope for the future.  I don't know what lies ahead, but I am going with the flow, and seeing where I am led.  It is daunting, but it is exciting and inspiring.  I am blessed with a family that loves and supports me, and with friends who share the hilarity of my foibles and comfort my loneliness.  As a creative soul, I seek the future with a grateful heart.

Let it snow.
