A Bright Sunshiny Day

Spring in the Southern US is a beautiful time. It came extra early this year, allowing cherries and early bloomers to showcase their flowers weeks early. A snap of deep freezing days put everything on hold, but we are recovering and though we lost some of the azalea blooms, others were luckier. A southern spring is still a thing of outstanding beauty, and highly recommended to anyone destined to live above the Mason-Dixon line.
I recently returned from a visit to a grand dame of the South - Charleston, with its lovely cobblestone streets, lined with palmetto and camellias. Richly wrought iron fences and gates frame secret courtyards. Dogwood blossoms float like clouds among the mansions along the Battery, as sailboats bob in the harbor. The breezes off the water swing the spanish moss lazily draping across the streets. For any artist, the city is an inspiration of color and form.
A few sketches, a couple of plein air works, and more photographs to add to my treasure trove were all I could capture. I soaked in the sights, the smells of the sea, and sand of the beach beneath my feet and came home to my studio. The paintings are flowing from the deep well of that magical place. My brushes are drawn to create images of high tide marshes, sunlit tidal creeks, and peaceful sunsets. My mind finds peace in this.
I'm working on moving forward in my gallery search, having some luck here and there. Within the next month or so, I hope to be settling in to a new lowcountry gallery, finding another artistic home. I can see it coming....it's going to be a bright, bright sunshiny day!
