Farmland Plein Air

For the past week or so, I've spent almost every day painting the Pennsylvania Dutch area, or as some might refer as the "Amish farmland". It has been a long time since I spent concentrated time on capturing what I SEE and not what I THINK I see. Or WANT to see. And do it outside with the bugs, and the lovely aroma of manure wafting across the fields! There is a bit of discipline in that. During this time of year, the colors of the landscape are green, green, and yes, green. A challenge for sure. These are some of the works I completed on site, and I took reference photos all over, and yes, some were those famous black and white cows. It will be fun to go through those and pick a few exercise pieces.. meaning I am the one exercising my skills and stretching my art muscles.
A field in Robesonia, and a home on a country road near Lebanon.

The hardest part was paring down my equipment to bare essentials (oil paints this time), and capturing images I saw as they were. It was a good skill workout, and I enjoyed the lovely cool weather. Sometimes you just need to step up to the plate and take a swing at things...I don't think I struck out this time, but maybe a home run is for the future!
