Another New Year's Eve

Technically, it is a bit past New Year's Eve, but I am thinking of an old Barry Manilow song of that title, how the song reflects that it is just another night like all the rest.  While that is true, it is a time when we have been conditioned to stop and think.  Reflect on where we are, who we are and what lies ahead.

This year begins in a place far, far away from my lifelong haunts, and as I watch a light snow fall, I realize I am not in Georgia anymore!  I have boldly walked into a new life.   Adjusting to living alone, learning where things are, finding a spiritual home, gaining confidence to step out on my own (as long as my GPS works), setting aside fear of the unknown -- all have been monumental steps toward making a new life on my own.  I find that the people I have encountered have been kind and friendly.  I am grateful for friends and family who make the trek north to visit.  I have added a support group of doctors, varied home improvement experts, a hair stylist, and a CPA to my new life. I'm making friends, growing socially, and finding my way.  Life is good.

My artist's life is good, too.  The studio is organized, and includes working space for visiting grandchildren (and their friends) to create and learn.  My own work space is comfortable, well supplied, and a place of joy.  When I step through the door, I see new work stacked around, ready for framing, or in various stages of completion.  Paints, canvas and wooden panels are there for the using.  Large pots are full of brushes. Works from my Georgia life mix with the new works of Pennsylvania.  It has become my sanctuary, a place of peace and happiness.

The other day, I was speaking with someone about exhibiting in an additional location.  When she introduced me to another employee, she said "Karen paints for joy now."  How true!!  I am no longer driven, in my work or in my life.  I am LED.  I am going forward with eyes open and heart ready.  Living each day to its fullest, with a grateful heart for all the blessings I have been showered with.  In joy.
