What's an Artist to Do?

Since March, 2020, we have all lived in curious, and sometimes threatening, times. Most galleries and retail outlets were shuttered, and a scramble ensued to create online inventory sales. For most artists, sales simply stopped. As concerning as this was, bills still needed to be paid, groceries bought, taxes paid. To their credit, many artists took this time to dive more deeply into their art, creating new works reflecting more richly understood concepts. Worry was replaced by hope, and artists took heart that times would change, for the better.
My challenge to you, reader, is to consider how you support the arts. How many times have you "liked" an image or work online, but it ended at that? Encouragement is appreciated, but it does not pay bills. When you purchase a piece of art, you keep the lifeblood going for a creative maker. These works are not created in a vacuum. They need the collector to complete their cycle. Could that be you? Would a unique creation brighten your life? You might be surprised at the positive effect of original art, on your mood, your psyche, and your attitude. Surrounding yourself with beauty, small or large, will make you part of a greater good, and part of the creative legacy of our times.
What's an artist to do? The more important question is: what's an art lover to do?
